A friend of a casino addict banned himself. See below.?

My friend is a casino addict and he started going to counseling for his addiction. At one of his sessions, he found out that he can ban himself from all casinos in Iowa. He decided to go and get himself banned. I know he did it, because I went with him for support. Anyway, the next day at group one of the people said that he could go back and not get caught. He most likely wouldn't get caught unless he won a jackpot.

Now I'm afraid he is back to gambling again. How likely is he to get caught? I'm sure the cameras will catch him eventually. But realistically will he ever get caught?

casinos are obliged to uphold the "self-exclusion" request of a patron. if he is caught, he will be asked to leave. if he refuses, the police will be called and he will be charged with trespassing. if he is caught a second time, he will not be given a chance to leave, the police will be called immediately and he will be charged up to $1000 for trespassing.

now, this only applies for alberta casinos, but i am sure something similar applies in your jurisdiction.

you or your friend may think it is not in their best interest to kick out a good customer. but in the long run, a casino may be sued for a player's losses if they can prove that the casino knowingly allowed them to remain in the casino while being self-excluded.

it would also be a public relations nightmare if a casino knowingly allowed a self-excluded guest remain in the casino. on the other hand, if a casino denies entry to a self-excluded player, it shows commitment to the welfare of individuals with gambling problems.

so, will he ever get caught? the answer is yes. the camera room is boring. trust me. and it becomes routine matching up pictures with patrons.
