Period Curiosity + Another period question. Please answer.?
Because periods can catch people by suprise, wouldnt everyone's first period leak through their underwear and pants, because you arnt wearing a pad to protect you from leaking?
It's just a curiosity that i have.
And another question i would like to ask is - I have never had my period before but i think it might be coming quite soon.
I have had discharge for a year now, and I have also got pubic and armpit hair, ocasional feeling like bloating and ocasional stomach aches and headaches, im nine months away from the age that my mum got her period.
So do you think that i should be preparing for my period now?
Thank you :]

Ok hun, firstly when your first period comes it will only be a tiny bit of blood. For me i didnt notice i was even bleeing untill i wiped myself like 4 hours later when i went to the toilet. Its not noticable, but it not like a rush of blood. I have been having perios for many hears and the first day of it each month - i only give a little bit of blood, then the 2nd dayit gets worse. But your first period will be VERY light.
You should be prepared. What i did is carry a pew pads and a spair pair of knickers in my school bag, just in case. You are getting the signs of coming on, and i aways bloat LOADS before my period, but there really isnt anything lse you can do to prepare. When you come on you will probably not notice it at all. It doent go through your knickers it might put a bit of blood on them on the first day, but thats the worst :)
hope this has helped xxx

As far as I know that doesn't mean you are getting your period. Getting your first period catches you by surprise. One day you will just be going to the bathroom and boom you notice blood on the toilet paper. Its really a freaky experience. I to kept thinking I was getting all the symptoms I was always warned about thinking that I could somehow predict the first onset of my period. But the truth is those symptoms may or may not exist. You could be imagining some of the symptoms because you know you are at that age. Yes you can bleed through your underwear and pants and it can be really embarrassing. But usually you are going to the bathroom often enough you can catch it early. The only preparing you need to do is have tampons or pads available. Also a warning, tampons were hard for me to use and were not comfortable. I used a super absorbent one thinking it didn't make a difference and it got stuck. It really hurt to pull it out. If you use tampons make sure they are the right absorbency.

Yes of course that is possible but it depends on the flow, if your period is heavy and you haven't gone to the bathroom or anything so you're not to notice, yes, chances are it will leak through and be a bit embarrassing. But if it's light, chances are it'll only make a mark in your underwear.
Everyone is different as I am sure you know, but in most cases daughters start their periods around the same time their mothers did, I would say that the odds are high for you to start sometime this year.

I think that for most girls, their first period did leak through their underwear (but not always through their pants; jeans, especially dark ones, can hide it pretty well). Fortunately, after that first time, you can know and prepare for when you'll get your period every month (give or take a few days).
If I were you, I would ask my mom to buy me some pads to keep in my backpack and/or purse. It's good to have on hand just in case you do get it, so you can try to avoid leaking ASAP.
And for future reference, if you do get blood on clothing, always wash it out with COLD water, not warm or hot water! Hot water will make the stain sink into the fabric, and make it almost impossible to get out.
Congratulations on "becoming a woman" :)

periods sure are a pain, especially if they catch you by surprise.
there is always no harm in being prepared, just take pads/tampons around with you and a spare pair of underwear, just so reassurance because you never know exactly when they will come.
i was lucky with my first period, i woke up went to the toilets, and had it as i was going to the toilet. except i got it on the day of state athletics, so it didnt work out so well.
good luck though :)
