If you are seeing someone that lives 4 hours away, and you cannot see them that often,?
so because you cannot see them, you like when they text you once a day, how can that be considered "needy"?

I think it depends on the context of how it was said. It doesn't sound needy, but if someone is coming off as whiny, it can sound needy.
Offhand though, calling or texting someone should be the highlight of the other person's day. That should be the one thing they can't wait to do. If they don't want to do the basic fundamental work needed to keep a LDR healthy, then perhaps it's better to just date someone closer by. (And that could be a sign that they aren't as faithful to the relationship as you think they are.)

It's not needy at all.
If you don't see them often, dropping a line or two here and there isn't EVER a bad thing.
Whoever you're seeing has problems, I'm sorry.

honestly, my bf is 5 hours away when you travel by plane. in other words, he lives in another country. i can't deal with it, so i am probably going to end it. i won't see him for another year. :-( but i think you two are meant to be, it will work, but you have to try to make it work or there will be no progress in your relationship
