My dog is on her period; do pet industries make sanitary napkins for dogs?

My dog stays in the house most of the time, and I would hate to put her outside because it's very cold, but at the same time, I might have too due to sanitary purposes or put her in the garage. My question is do they make sanitary napkins for dogs? If so, are they sold in local pet stores?

Update:

thanks all for the comments; i will get her spayed this year.

Update 2:

lol she's only outside when she needs to use the bathroom; she's mainly in the house so she's safe.

Update 3:

To Alli K, first of all, if i was breeding my dog, i'm pretty sure i would know my dog's situation, and wouldn't post a question like this on YA!

Yes they do. Go to petsmart.com. They make a little harness thing that has removable pads in them.

Okay, you must be a first time dog owner. Dogs do not have periods. A period signals the end of fertility for that cycle. A dog is in heat or in season. The discharge is one sign that she is now fertile. When the discharge ends and her swelling subsides then she will no longer be fertile for this cycle. Putting her outside and unattended will be almost ensuring that an intact male will find his way into the yard and impregnate her.

Yes, there are sanitary pants for dogs and they’re sold at many pet supply stores as well as online. If her discharge is causing a problem why not crate her or confine her to a room behind a baby gate?

The ones at the pet shops I think are over priced. Probably because I need to buy the XL ones. My girl went into heat this past week and I went out and bought the little diaper thing, didn't last more than one night. She tore it off in the middle of the night and devoured it, plus the pads they give your don't absorb anything.

So I bought a second pair of the dog panties, and went to walgreens and bought Super Maxi pads with the wings. It helped it stay in place and did a good job keeping everything absorbed. Make sure to change the pad just like you would for your period. She kept this pair for about 3 days and then decided to destroy that pair. So now I'm down $45 on dog panties lol.

So instead of spending any more. I took a pair of my old panties, cut a hole for her tail, put in a maxi pad, and got that on her... she has yet to take off this pair ;)

But I suggest that as soon as shes off her cycle, to have her spayed. There are alot of clinics that do spaying for cheap. It's what I'm doing, I can't stand to have this mess again.

The best thing to use for sanitary pads is human female's nursing pads, stuck to the inside of canine washable underwear. The disposable pad is exactly the right size and shape for my German shepherds.

Not everyone has to get his/her dog spayed. I choose not to after doing lots of research on health issues. However, I go to a LOT of trouble/expense to make sure my dogs don't have unwanted puppies. It's not an easy job but I have made the conscious choice.

Dogs do NOT have periods. Dogs come into heat/season. Yes, they do sell dog diapers. You let your dog out alone? That's an unwanted pregnancy waiting to happen. Get off your computer and call the vet to make a spay appointment.

Dog training are excellent and very helpful to build you a stronger relationship with your dog. Read more https://tr.im/7q5sH

After I started training my dog, he became very attached to me and loves to stay by side as long as he can. But just going to them won't help. You have to practice what they teach you outside of the class and you need to keep up with it at least every now and then after the class ends otherwise they'll just go back to previous habits. This course is a really good place to go for dog obedience classes. It get's your dog around other people and dogs to socialize while getting the training you need. As for electric collars, I would say to not get one. In my experience, they're only a negative effect on your dog. I mean of course you're going to need to correct your dog, but being positive and encouraging your dog works a lot faster and easier.

Every dog is different, so unless you have a german shepherd or a really smart dog, it might take a while to train her. You might get frustrated with her, but go easy. She's still a puppy and has a lot of energy. A backyard or somewhere to run will help her get rid of a lot of energy that might cause her to misbehave from boredom.

Dogs don't have periods...they come into heat. And yes they do make sanitary napkins for dogs.

yes they make panties and pads for dogs

The cheap solution is to take a pair of boy's underwear, put it on her backwards, put the tail thru the pee-hole and use just a regular maxi pad

If you get her spayed, you wont have to deal with this again in another 6 months or so.

DO NOT put her outside unattended! Not even in a fenced yard. Every roaming male that catches scent of her will be at your back door and making every attempt to get to her! Dogs are pretty cunning when it comes to finding a female in heat!

They make them, but no, she's not safe outside just to use the bathroom. This is where females get pregnant. The owners think 5 minutes outside is safe..but males can hurry up, do their thing, and voila..puppies on the way. Be outside with her EVERY time she uses the bathroom for the next three weeks.

Females generally clean themselves, so it's usually pointless to use pads..not to mention most dogs will tear them off.

Call your vet in the morning and schedule a spay. Remember, heat lasts about 3 weeks.

My Toy Poodle was in heat three times before we were able to finally get her spayed. Things kept popping up. Like the last time the day she was to get spayed, the mayor ordered all non essential businesses to close for that week due to bad flooding in town. We left her in the house and all was just fine.
