Yahoo Answers is shutting down on May 4th, 2021 (Eastern Time) and the Yahoo Answers website is now in read-only mode. Do you ever wonder how many Yahoo questioners are in jail for following the advice they got on Yahoo?

The reason I ask is I have seen several answers selected as "best answer" which will result in serious legal consequences if they are followed.

    Yeah, 'best' =/= correct.

I try hard to remember that the vast majority of users here seem to be teenagers whose interest may not align with their actual information. In my one area of expertise, I see people giving bad information and mistaken opinions so often that I sometimes get discouraged and leave for a while.

Usually, when a person asks a question here, they aren't looking for a real answer, they are only looking for support. They seldom ask the question with the motivation of finding a true answer.

They ask a question in an attempt to find someone else that feels the way they do. They then wait for an answer that matches their belief or view on something.

They then choose that answer as the "best answer" because it makes them feel better about themselves.

Only if the person who asked the question is really stupid enough to follow such advice. In which case it might be a good thing for them to learn a lesson.

It is their fault for taking advice. There is a disclaimer that states-

Yahoo! does not evaluate or guarantee the accuracy of any Yahoo! Answers content.

    1) Hopefully people are smart enough to distinguish joke answers from real answers.

    2) If they aren't do you really want them running around free?

    3) Regardless of how poorly worded or bad my advice/answer is, if it goes to voting you better believe I'm voting for myself...that's 10 points!

lol. i spend a lot of time in the law/ethics section and i can certainly agree. what else can you expect? many of those posters are teens that think they have a clue about law when even law school grads often fail the bar exam. however, if yahoo limited this site to only people who knew what they're talking about, the site would be long gone.

If people are stupid enough to follow the advice they get off a QA board - they probably deserve to be in jail.

LOL, yes! But if they were dumb enough to trust the invisible strangers of YA for legal advice, they deserve to be in jail.

haha - absolutely. There is no section in yahoo where more bad guesses are passed off as actual answers as I see in this section. It's mind boggling.

Yes I wonder too...but I'm sure most sane people know that stupid answers shouldn;t be treated seroiusly...
