let the age of three brothers be 2n-2 , 2n , 2n+2
so
3 ( 2n - 2 ) - 48 = 2n + 2
=> 6n - 6 -48 + 2n + 2
=> 4n = 56
=> 14
therefore the age of brothers is 26 , 28 , 30
so the age of the youngest brother is 26 years

you could check the choices, or
consecutive even integers are n , n + 2, and n + 4
3n = (n + 4) + 48
3n = n + 52
2n = 52
n = 26
the youngest brother is 26
his oldest brother is 30
3(26) = 78 = 30 + 48
4) 26
