Will my drill sergeant know that I'm foreign?

I'm likely to go to Basic Combat Training for the Army as a foreigner. I'm Chinese, and I'm always forced to tell people my stupid citizenship status whenever I talk to a government person. My green card doesn't only say China for my citizenship, but says "PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC of China", clearly indicating that I am from that stupid communist country.

I am always forced to embarrass myself in my civilian life, will the same thing happen while I'm in Basic Combat Training? I can deal with my drill sergeant calling me a commie all the time and make me run and do push ups, but will he/she know that I'm forced to be a part of that dictatorship government? My recruiter told me that I should be able to get my citizenship one year after I swear in, so will anyone, especially the commanding officers, know that I was born as a Chinese citizen?

My friend, you are not a communist, but a hero and an example to your people of what freedom is. Your Drill Sergeant will not call you a commie, he will not make you do extra running and pushups (for that reason), and he doesn't care where you came from because you are where you are now... and that is sitting in front of him waiting to become a United States Soldier. My father went through Basic Training for the Air Force in the '70s... he was a Colombian citizen and he acheived his citizenship status one year after he was in. And whether or not you have been "granted" citizenship right now, you are an American as far as I'm concerned, because you choose to defend it.

Don't worry about the Drill Sergeants being racist because they are NCO's, and the NCO creed starts off with "No one is more professional than I." They will not act racist or discriminating towards you. They might laugh if you have a funny last name, but that's about it. Since you are a citizen of China, it is the law to let officials know, because there are different laws that apply to foreigners. Even when you become citizen, the fact that you were born in a different country might mean there are different laws that apply to you... like you aren't eligible to become US President, for example.

I wouldn't say the same about your peers though, the people you'll be training next to. Most will be courteous, but then you might get a couple who will ruin your day because they don't know better.

Your CO's will probably need to know, but you probably won't take a HUGE amount of flak for it. You'll have more important things to worry about. Don't stand out(draw attention to yourself) and you shouldn't have an issue w/ the drill sergeants.

Your Drill SGT won't attack your nationality, as a DS is supposed to represent the ideal of the Army. He'll yell at you, break you down mentally, and turn you into a soldier. But he won't be racist toward you. And if he is, you can go to your CO and tell him. A DS who singles somebody out because of their nationality is not fit to be a DS.

of course everyone will know you're foreign. if you're not white, everyone will know you're not white! whether taiwanese or japanese, a commie or whatever.

after you get your citizenship, good luck finding a job. i know my son lost his....to a commie in Communist china! and while servin' in the military they'll be sure to pump you up with vaccines and let you breathe in that good ol' depleted uranium.

Uh...just a hint..its pretty hard to hide your Chinese features guy...

The last thing you will have to worry about is your ethnicity...in fact we are proud you would want to join our team and serve your adopted country...which is a HUGE step over most of the oxygen thieves who were born here.

They probably will not ask as that is not politically correct. If someone does ask where you are from, tell them the city where you enlisted. IE: San Francisco. Then shut up.

(Do not expect to get any kind of high rated security clearance.)

if he does that, pull out your nunchucks and beat him up then sit on his face and fart.
