Are the Arabs a Semetic people?

Answer

Dear Pete,

In answer to your question, yes, but, you need to know that, technically, the only "Arabs" of the middle east are the Gulfi countries, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Palestine are called the Al Sham countries, and technically, they may speak the language, and a majority of them practice Islam (except for Lebanon, they are mostly Christian), they aren't technically "Arabs", they are semitic people, as are the Mediterannean countries, particularly Greece and Cyprus.

Using the word semitic today to depict Jews is actually not the original meaning of the word, the present day Israeli's are mostly of European descent.

Thank you for your question

    Arabs are not.

Arabs claim they are, saying they are the children of Ishmael son of Abraham, his first-born. BUT we Jews do not - like Arabs, Russians and loads of other nationalities - hold by patrilineal descendant.

TO BE A JEW YOU HAVE TO HAVE A JEWISH MOTHER. And Ishmael did not. His mother (this is all in the Book of Genesis) was Hagar, an Egyptian (Egypt=Mitzrayim), and Mitzrayim was one of the four sons of Ham (along with Canaan, Put and Cush.)

The Torah also tells us that Hagar found a wife for her son who was also an Egyptian.

Therefore: since Ishmael had a Hamitic (not a Semitic) mother and married a Hamitic woman, his offspring are Hamites, not Semites.

Shay is quite wrong. Arabs are in fact a Semitic people. How he can say they are not is beyond me. Would he really have us believe that some German or Eastern European Jew is Semitic, but Arabs are not? Most Jews today are European, however, the Middle Eastern Jews are Semitic people, just as the Arabs.

Technically yes but technically not all of them but technically yes Arabs are also Semitic people and therefore technically if someone is labeled Anti-Semitic it means that technically he is against both Jews and Arabs. I am Egyptian, and I can trace some roots of mine back to Saudi Arabia, therefore technically I am Semitic and this means that technically, you forgot to add the other Arab countries since technically all Arabs come from that area technically.

Pretty straightforward -answer yes Arabs are semites

    Here's a little from Wikipedia:

The term Semite means a member of any of various ancient and modern Semitic-speaking peoples originating in southwestern Asia, including Akkadians, Canaanites, Phoenicians, Hebrews, Arabs, and Ethiopian Semites.

"Anti-Semitism" is a cynically made up concept. A black propaganda device used by Jews to continue receiving Billions of free dollars from the US taxpayer each year. It is a fact that jews are the most powerful, wealthiest and privileged communities in the Us and in the UK so why do they want people to feel sorry for them - it is a shameless con.

Israelis should stand on their own two feet and stop conning the world.

    Yes most Arabs are Semitic.

Although I do not think the Arabs of North Africa (Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, etc) are originally of Semitic ancestry. We have to remember here that Arab identity is formed for the most part along LINGUISTIC lines, NOT racial, and so many non-Semitic peoples are considered to be Arabs.

I also do not think Malta (which is in Europe) is racially Semitic.

"they are semitic people, as are the Mediterannean countries, particularly Greece and Cyprus."

Are you high or something? Since when have Greeks become Semitic? They are Indo-European, not Semitic.

    Greek and Cypriots semitic?

    Lmao!!!!!!!!!!!

The best joke I have ever heard the last days!!!!

Btw, the only European Semites are Maltese people.

All Arabic speaking people are Semitic.

Included these of Levant and Northern Africa.

Is this that complicated ? No. =]

Does it really matter? All I know is that the Mizrachi Jews and the Arabs are cousins. (My wife is of Iraqi origin and I tell her that she is more Arab than Jewish). According to Webster though, anti-semitism only pertains to the Jewish people.

But if it is important to the other posters, I will include the Arabs within my own personal definition of antisemitism.
