Is it legal for a company to lie to you about your job title?
There was a posted assistant manager position in my company and I was hired for that position. I have come to find out that my title still is the same as it was before I got the job. I questioned my manager about it and he keeps on avoiding me about it or just walks away. I have called HR and they said it is up to him whether or not he wants to change it. Is there anything I can do?

Although it's not good for your employer to do something like that, you've looked at your options. If you received an increase in salary or change in responsibilities, then that should be enough. You could always state what your real title is on your resume in the future - the responsibilities should say enough about the position. HR should have more control over the title than your manager... that's strange.

It would be best to have an honest direct talk with him about this, but youi're better off trying to get into your own business instead of progressing up to an "assistant manager." I would recommend striving toward that end, if Obama doesn't screw things up too badly for the average person.
By doing something simple, you could becme your own CEO instead of an "assistant manager" (and questionably that) at someone else's organization." What contempt they must have for you.

There is no law about titles at work. They could name your King of the Grill and it wouldn't mean a thing.
Now is they agreed to pay you more and then didn't, you might have an issue.
