Your contacts have to add a photo before you can see one
To add a pic:
Open BBM
Scroll to your user name
Press the trackpad
Scroll up to the default image next to Display Name
Press the trackpad and navigate to your pictures
Scroll to the pic you want to use and press the trackpad
Press the trackpad again and select Crop and Save
Done
