Depends on the results you are looking for. Generally, more reps, less weight will provide more strength and tone, while more weight, less reps will build mass more quickly. As for diet, be sure to get some basic protein powder (not isolate, you want it with carbs). The stuff tastes horrible but it will help with the exercise and mass building. Any supplement that boasts MASSIVE MASS etc. is generally overpriced and under-effective and unhealthy... stay away from said supplements. (NO^2 boost is an exception.) Last of all, keep with it and don't overwork yourself, have a day of rest at least 3 days a week.

the heavy weight. but 10 sets is a little dramatic. personally for me, and everyone is different, i would say 3 sets of 5. that lets you lift heavier without over working your muscles. but only lifting heavy is bad. switch it off. one week heavy for everything and then light the next. that way your muscles will have enough time to rest. its also good cause working sore muscles also helps the muscle get used to the soreness. when i played baseball, the day after a game the pitchers had to run at least 2 miles and sprints so that they wouldn't be sore for the next game.

so in conclusion lifting heavy is better because it breaks down the muscle fibers faster which is needed to build muscle. but lifting light is also good as well. the light weight of 5 sets 10 reps can stay as is. but for heavy make sure its at 3 sets of 5 reps. anything higher will cause you do unnecessary movements which could hurt you. ALSO EAT LOTS AND LOTS OF PROTEIN.

Probably the 10 sets of 5 at heavy weight.

Lower reps + higher weight = builds muscle size.

Higher reps + lower weight = more tone, less size.

Well I work out in the gym a lot and i suggest if u are trying to burn fat and build muscle do more reps of less weight. but if u are already skinny, do more weight and less reps. Eat stuff like chicken and fish that have a lot of protein which is used to make muscle. Dont use P90X. That doesnt give that natural looking cut that most ppl want. it gives u a abnormal proportion to your physique. As well dont use muscle building products, these are basically scams for people who CAN get fooled by the companies that make it.

low reps heavy wieght!!! low sets

use weights were you can only lift 5-8 reps max! go until failure!

    do about 3 sets

also diet is most import, make sure you eat a ton at least 3200 calories

    get good lean protein sources

rest is second most important, shoot for 8-10 hours of sleep

never work the same muscle group 2 days in a row

    muscle confusion is key

I agree with kurtiz_j. personally i would prefer 5 sets of 10 reps of light weight.. cycle it if i was isolating specific muscle groups

5 sets of 5 is better than 5 sets of 10

But 10 sets of 5 would be So much harder than 5 sets of 10.

IF your doing less reps you do more weight. So expect not to be able to do as much.

If you're trying to "build", lift heavier. If you want to "cut", lift lighter. And if you want to build muscle rather than tone, make sure to get good calorie intake.
