how do i get microsoft word onto my laptop if i dont have a cd reader on my laptop?

If you have internet access, the easiest thing would be to download openoffice. works the same as microsoft word/excell and etc. but is free!

If you have 2 PCs at your home and they are on the same network then you can share the CD drive through the netowrk to insatll the files on your laptop.

On the host PC (the one with the CD drive) you'll need to make sure there is a password with the user account, as when you connect through the netowrk you'll be asked for a password.

make an iso image of the cd on friend's laptop. Transfer the image on your laptop using a pen drive. Mount the image on daemon-tools or alcohol 120%. Daemon-tools alcohol 120% are softwares which install a virtual cd/dvd drive on your laptop.

For about 29 dollars you can buy an external cd drive. If you don't have one, it is advisable to get it because there will be future things you want to download.

Download Open Office, it's free and you can create word docs and open MS Word docs in it
