Antonio Margarito to get a boxing license in Texas?
If he recieves his license he will be the co-feature of Pac/Clottey. What do you think about this?
@Kobra - I don't think you can compare Mike Vick and Antoino Margarito. I don't condone Vick, but if he was a judge for westminster and he was fighting dogs he wouldn't be allowed to judge ever again. Margarito potentially put other fighters lives in jeopardy to get an edge, that is unforgivable in boxing. If he were in the street he would be in jail right now.

I am in no way surprised because Arum stood behind him from day one of the hand wrap controversy. I thought his stance with Margarito was not only wrong to boxing (and fair play) but also to Cotto (who he probably cheated), his other fighter. Between this and the way he negotiated Cotto's fight against Pacquiao...it seems he used Cotto and made a lot of money and they he was no longer a priority. Anyway, to your question, Arum will make money on Margarito some more. A year is a long punishment...although I think his act was criminal and there maybe should have been some jail time. At the same time, this is America, where we give second chances...but he should be very tightly observed to make sure he is not cheating in anyway. I just think it's funny, this guy gets suspended for a year and comes back on the undercard of a major PPV fight...It's like he is being rewarded for bad behavior. It also is beyond ironic that Texas with it's questionable boxing history would be allowing Margarito back into the game.

Margarito has never been proven to have known that his trainer was using plaster of Paris on his wraps. His license was suspended for 1 year and he served that sentence. I can understand the frustration of the boxing public but blaming Pacquiao for accepting to fight him instead of waiting for PBF to come out of hiding just doesn't make sense. The Texas Commission granted Margarito the license and whether he deserved it or not should not be an issue. Margarito is a formidable fighter and can't be taken for granted. He could have come from any other nation and wouldn't matter. He got the license and he should be allowed to fight whoever he wants.

I don't think it will make the sport look bad just because they're letting Margarito fight again. Look at MLB with their HGH/steroid problems. They suspend players for a certain amount of time, and are allowed to play again. Look at A-Rod, one of the many who had used some sort of steroids, and they did not suspend him or anything, and he is still playing.
Let the man fight, everybody makes mistakes. Fighters nowadays use plaster, steroids, hgh, but they haven't got caught yet. On top of that, they'll definitely keep an eye on Margarito when he is getting wrapped. Let's see what he can do without the plaster.

I think Cotto should get out of his contract with Arum. He's been pushing to get Margarito licensed ever since Plastergate. Either Arum doesn't realize the gravity of cheating in a sport like boxing or he doesn't care. Let this guy fight his way back to the top. Let him fight for scraps until he has redeemed himself. He doesn't deserve to be put on a big fights undercard much less to be a co-feature. He bludgeoned one of Top Ranks star fighters in a bout where he was highly suspected to have been cheating. He deserves to get knocked out by Mosley 3 times a year.

Arum of course wants to profit from Margarito's name. That is his fighter and he makes millions from him. I think Margarito fighting may not be good for boxing because it demonstrate the leniency of the sport to convicted cheaters. Margarito's use of paris plaster parts was a serious matter. We dont know if he used it against Cotto but it is fair to speculate he cheated because he has cheated against Mosley. He could have easily jeopardize Mosley's health, and therefore there should be higher punishment for Margarito's action.
I'd like to see Margarito fight sometime, but not at this moment when fans are still stuck with the drug testing saga between Floyd and Manny. Pacquaio vs Clottey would do well without Margarito. In fact it is Margarito who is benefitting from this because he would be advertise in one of the biggest payperview events this year. I'd like Margarito to serve his ban a bit longer and get his own fights without being in a popular undercard under Pacquiao's popularity.

everybody deserves a second chance. Antonio Margarito needs to start at something before he can rise up again.
Mosley proven steroid user got his 2nd chance.

Jerry Jones' Stadium, Arum, and Pacs fleeing NSAC's drug testing under the suspect athlete rule are really highlighting the dirty side of boxing and further highlighting the lack of a PROVEN CLEAN CHAMPION OR TITLE during the era of drug use.
On March 13 Clottey is either going to be a pathetic heavy bag or Pac is going to dummy up his skills to make it look competative. Margaritto simply brings more dirty ambiance to the Stadium being used to sanction dirty athletes and catchweight mismatches.

Let the guy fight...I really don't care if he wins a championship or ends up as a club fighter in Cancun.
P.S. If Bob Arum is willing to go so far as defend a bonafide cheater....then what kind of person does that make him? And would it be fair to associate his boxers with his (Arum) ethics?

I'm over it. Margarito's back! That's awesome. I supported Mike Vick's return also, look I'm not asking these guys to conduct a sermon at a church, just want them to get back to doing what they do.

It's boxing, Margarito is just one in a long line of criminals to lace up the gloves. Where there is $$ to be made, laws bend.
