question about opening pdf files with adobe?

I am trying to open up a pdf file with adobe. The thing is, the computer prompts me to tell it what program to use to do it. When I use Microsoft Word 2007 to do it, it tells me to "select the encoding that makes the document readable." No matter which one I pick, I get a document with long strings of numbers and nonsense letters.

I really need the document in question. How do I get it open?

You cannot open PDF file normally in MS Word, the right way is to use adobe reader.

Generally speaking, if you install adobe reader, the program will automatically open files with .pdf when you double click them. So maybe you do not install the adobe reader or it cannot work well.

Reinstall it and the problem will be resolved.

For me, I would like to use PDF-Xchange Viewer. It allows me add comments and annotations to any PDF file. You also can have a try.

    Hope it helps.

You shouldn't try to use MS Word to open it.

When it prompts you for a program choose "Adobe Reader" or "Adobe Acrobat Reader" or whatever it's calling itself.

If it prompts you every time then when you choose to use Adobe check the box which says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" so that Adobe Acrobat Reader is set as the default program for pdf files.

If it doesn't let you use Adobe, it may have been removed from your computer or something like that. Either re-install it or install another program instead (there are lots of programs which can read pdf)

Adobe Reader is the right software to open PDF's with...

But if you want to author and edit PDF files, you can use Adobe Acrobat, click here: http://tinyurl.com/crk3ud6
