Who should replace Simon Cowell?

It would have to be someone who is very familiar with the music business because he or she would have some big shoes to fill, like an experienced record producer. Simon Cowell had almost 20 years experience as a record producer before he and the not-quite-so-famous Simon Fuller created "American Idol" back in 2002. It would have to be someone in Simon's league when it comes to job credentials. Simon was thinking of Tommy Mottola. He successfully managed Mariah Carey's career. It would likely be a middle aged man or woman who has their own record label. It would not be just any celebrity taking his place. For example, Ellen took Paula's place even though she knows nothing about the music business. She's a comedian and talk show host! The judge replacing Simon would have to meet a much higher standard and would have to be carefully chosen. He/she would be paid a lot more too..

Simon isn't famous only because of his brutal honesty. He can also spot talent or lack of talent (flaws) better than anyone else on the judging panel and America knows it.. He's the brains behind the show. That's why he seems irreplaceable. It's what he has been doing almost all his adult life as a record label producer before he ever became famous from being on television.

On a similar type of music TV show in Britain called "X Factor" Simon is the head judge and he owns the show itself. He has less power on American Idol but his replacement would likely be another successful music mogul. He/she may not even be famous right now. Many work away from the spotlight (behind the scenes) and only their "stars" are getting famous from all the media attention. My guess is that it will be a person who the general public hasn't heard of yet. Anything less than a judge with stellar job credentials in the music industry and American Idol is going to go down the toilet because it's THAT hard to fill Simon's shoes .

I was thinking that someone like Simon Fuller could fill Simon Cowell's shoes. He's not that great looking or even that famous but he is hugely successful in the music and TV industry.
