    It can.

It's like any business, someone has to want to buy your product. If you're selling a product that interests lots of people, then you'll sell a lot. If not, then you won't. You can put everything into selling an item that doesn't interest people and it won't pay. But even if you have a great item with a wide appeal, if you put nothing into it, people won't be buying. You have to make the effort.

It also depends on what you mean by "really pay". For some people, selling a few items and making a supplemental income is enough to make it pay. What's enough for you or another person varies. Can you leave your day job and live in an expensive home, probably not. But if you enjoy making the items and want to make a little extra, that's perfect.

It can pay off but as with many things, you get what you put into it! The most successful etsy artists I know post and renew items on a regular basis (several times a week) to keep their items fresh on the search listings. They also blog about them on personal and craft sites, post on flickr, and otherwise actively get their name out there. Your success will begin on word of mouth and can grow as you generate more traffic to your site.

I have a site myself, but I go through phases when I'm active. I only get traffic when I've been busy posting. Good luck to you!

Have you tried artfire.com that is free up to 12 items no fees at all. It depends what you are selling on etsy and you need to be patient but yes it does pay.

It does for me. Like any business, you get out of it what you put into it.

    All the best.
