I want to know about having a bobcat as house pet.?

Ive always wanted an exotic animal. I am in love with bobcat I think they are adorable I want to raise one from birth sometime in the future. Is it legal to have one as a pet? How do you get one? & How do they act? I want one to guard the house and be tuff. Is there any other exotic animals I might enjoy as a house pet?

Legality: It depends on where you live. They are native in most US states and require a permit from the state fish and game. Some states ban keeping bobcats as pets, while others require a permit. The same is true of county, township, and city governments. You would have to research the laws where you live.

Purchasing: You would have to find a reputable breeder. Do a search for bobcat breeders in your area.

Behavior: Many exotic cats are not fully litter trained, although there are some exceptions. They can jump up on shelves and knock things off. If you are willing to accept this, then I encourage you to check out the sites below for more information.

Ohhh...kay. So you don't even know what they are like as pets but you want one anyway??? And you expect US to tell you all about them?

Sorry, it doesn't work that way. Bobcats are potentially dangerous wild animals. In some place its illegal to keep them as pets, in some places you will need a license. More importantly you'll need experience and knowledge of feline psychology, and a great deal of time and money. Although the smaller big cats CAN be kept if you have the right sort of experience, most people end up giving them up because they end up aggressive and love "marking" the furniture (peeing all over it, to mark their territory...this is natural you cannot stop it). They are deeply dangerous to any smaller pets you might have, and also possibly children...children running can trigger a predator response in a bobcat. You can forget about taking a holiday again for their whole 20 year lifespan, you cant exactly call a pet sitter to take care of your bobcat! Once you have one you need to keep it for life, they bond hard and fast to their family and suffer greatly if passed around owner to owner.

Usually cats like this cost thousands of pounds to buy, you will usually require expensive insurance in case the bobcat attacks someone, and a custom designed outdoor enclosure that costs many thousands to build. You will need a source of whole animal carcasses which will cost you a ton of money, and any vet willing to see them and also knowledgeable is likely to live a long way away and charge you a great deal of money.

If you want a bobcat, get a stuffed one. I think its all you can handle.

Yeah, but you will have to put the leopard in the basement. Leopards and bobcats do not get along very well. Try getting a tiger or cheetah instead. They get along better with the bobcats.

well you might want to start with a snake or something, no they are not illegal but you have to fill out stacks of paperwork and live on a large enough piece of land as well as not have neighbors near by. plus u cant really have guest come over because you will be held responsible for anything that might happen. you would have to look online at some different wildlife reservations to find out more info. use bing.com they have all kinds of info

Yes, in some states it is legal. Be sure to show dominance over your cat, as they are still wild animals at heart. Be sure to not put it under much stress, as these cats can get mean. Maybe do more research before actually plunging into owning one.

Bobcats can turn nasty and are not reccommended as pets. They are wild animals and should remain in the wild.

They are wild animals and even if raised from birth are vitually untameable.

I am tired of hearing about people wanting exotic pets, they are wild animals with a birth right that is as valid as yours or mine. Please leave them be.
