heating/ lighting for fire-bellied toads?

I'm getting fire bellied toads soon, and I recently read that they need heating light. I have a 10 gallon tank kit that i got for fish but i decided to go with toads instead, it is a tank hood and it has 2 bulbs in it that say "lamp rated 25 watts max... would the toads be ok or do i need to buy a different source or light? Thank You! :)

You can usually buy small 25 watt heat bulbs that should fit your tank, and these are almost aways sufficient, because fire bellied toads do not need extremely high heat. You should buy at least one thermometer(not the kind that comes with the tank, that can go in the water) for inside the tank - they typically only cost a few dollars. Put it at ground level (and at the basking spot, if you have more than one thermometer), not at the top, and watch the temperature. The basking spot should read between 75-80F, the rest of the tank between 70-75F, and not below 60F at night. Ideal water temperature is around 75F.

Unfortunately many pet store employees are trained by the company, and often they give very poor care info. Many pet stores will try to tell you Calci-sand or walnut chips are good substrates for reptiles--and they are deadly! Please listen to the experts in the field--those that have been doing this and breeding successfully for a number of years. Temperature: Fire-bellied toads are tolerant of a wide range of temperatures which is one of the reasons they make good captives. Normal daytime temperatures should range from 72F to 78F (22C to 26C), and can drop at night. Cool temperatures are tolerated well, and occasional drops down to 60F (16C) don’t present a problem. Avoid temperatures above 85F (29C). A low wattage incandescent light bulb can be placed over the land section of the cage during the day to create a warm area for the toads, and a submersible aquarium heater can be used to heat the water if needed
