Colour settings in Photoshop/Mac screen?

When i paint something in photoshop on my macbook and print it, or transfer it to my old Dell laptop, the colours are always different from what is on the macbook's screen.

I don't have this problem with photos, or pictures i scan in - their colours look pretty much the same, it's just digital painting. i thought at first it might be my mac screen, but since most images seem to show the correct colouring, i guess it must be Photoshop.

Any ideas on how to fix this? i've looked online but i'm not sure which "solutions" will work for this particular problem!

I'd imagine that programs like your scanner software just use the system's default color profile, usually sRGB, with no adjustment for output hardware.

Meanwhile, Photoshop has a very thorough color management system:

Different hardware doesn't normally show the exact same color when compared side-by-side.

If you haven't calibrated your monitors, do so. It may be as simple as setting a consistent white point (such as 6500° for indoor incandescent lighting) using the monitor's onscreen display or your video card's control panel. Also, many LCD displays have a bit of color shift depending on what angle you view.
