Progression of technology -vs- wisdom?

Why does it seem to me, reading these questions on a daily basis that even though we (overall) have progressed so far in technical advances, does it appear that people (in general) are becoming stupider? I truly believe stupidity can be verified daily.

I agree. The failure is in schools teaching children how to find data now rather than in learning the data, as was the case in earlier non-technology classrooms.

Look how kids today can't spell because they lazily run their words through spell check rather than learn how to spell correctly to begin with. Or, worse, how texting has butchered the language to the point that these uneducated children believe those who can spell and use grammar properly are somehow "out of it" for believing English shouldn't be a second language to an English speaking Nation!

Technology is fine. It is a tool though, and should add to human knowledge rather than replace it.

And youtube is not education! It should be recognized for what it is!

Our future is frightening to see what the next generations are shaping up to be.

The intellectual degradation of our society is consistently proving to be more prevalent as time goes on, I agree. Whether technology is the catalyst to this however, is not as clear.

Technology and advances in science/philosophy have always caused some sort of effect that negatively impacted society. After Frederick Nietzsche completed his study in physics and completed his theory of the Eternal Return ( Universe and space time being finite, never allowing for any true progression, because everything will just cycle back to the beginning) it was Nietzsche's "discovery" which provoked German dictator Adolf Hitler to his philosophy about the Aryan race. The swastika was originally the symbol for the Eternal Return, which was a theory in physics. We advance, and then people take this advancement and misinterpret it in ways which actually causes regression.

That was sort of an extreme example, yet it is the same concept on all levels. We advance, we use the advancement improperly, and then we regress (intellectually). It is a continuous cycle that will eventually lead to the destruction of our planet.

People are not "stupider", uneducated should be the term. Technology has accelerated so fast the average person has great difficulty trying to stay current. It's a world wide problem that will get worse with time. How will it evolve, who knows.

Ignorance will never leave us. We are all born with it. If that is what you look for you will always find plenty. If stupidity were truly growing, then progress would be slowing. Statistics would appear to indicate that wisdom is growing.

tho knowledge is becoming increasingly available

it is so presented by the philosophies of the world

that sometimes are cloaked as if it is spiritual even biblical wisdom

but it is often not the true wisdom that enables one to best apply knowledge

    in that sense

many assume they are ahead of the game

and then come sometimes to realize how empty and hallow

and false this sense of being with it is

but then often they are confused how to find true spirtual wisdom

sometimes they turn to the bible or other spiiritual teachings

that might again give a sense of a way to be happy

but sometimes that is also a kind of perversion of what it claims to be truth

Well if you define technology as 'knowing how to do it',

and wisdom as 'knowing if it should it be done', the

I'd wholeheartedly agree that our progress in the first

has far outstripped our growth in the second.

Wisdom applied as a deterrent would be a solution, but there is a shortage of Wisdom in stock if any

have you seen the movie "Idiocracy"? It very clearly and concisely explains why people (in general) are getting dumber every year... in the first ten minutes or so.
