Why do some dark skinned black women have low self esteem?*plz read*?

Society and the media tells us that dark skin, kinky hair, and certain facial futures are not as beautiful. I'm a dark skinned black woman and I used to have an extremely low self esteem because of my skin color. I always felt inadequate compared to lighter complected black women or women of other races. It seems as if the media showed me that dark skin and my hair texture needed to be modified in order to be beautiful and acceptable. Have you ever noticed that a majority of female black celebrities are light skinned? When there is a group of black females (like Destiny's Child or 3LW), the lead singer is always light skinned and sometimes there aren't even dark skinned girls in the group like Electric Red. Whenever you do see a dark skinned black woman, she usually has silky, long weave and colored contacts as if she's not good enough naturaly. Anyway, it was a phase in my life that I'm beginning to leave behind. I'm not going to be another product of society's twisted logic.

Because dark skinned black women have been dogged out by society. They have been taught that since they had dark skin they were considered undesirable. Society puts lighter skinned women on a pedestal and darker skinned women wonder why they aren't being as favored and so they feel rejected. When you watch television and you see a black woman, she's usually light skinned. When you look at celebrities such as Beyonce or Halle Berry, you pretty much see that they are at the top of their game in their professions as singer and actress. They're black women but they're light skinned. You don't see many dark skinned black women go that far. Society says that the only you're accepted as a black women is if you're light skinned with Caucasian features in indirect ways. I agree with you. There are many pretty dark skinned girls.

Because those bastard students in your class are most likely teasing her for having the complexion she has.That kind of treatment is very common in black schools(I'm not saying all of them,just the brainwashed that light skin/red-bone is right kind of black people).

Some are like this because the negative media from racism,entertainment industry(hip-hop&rap),brain wash influence from slavery,and how they're taught that dark skinned black women are considered ugly,inferior,not feminineor even how their family or schoolmates treat them,etc.It's also worst getting that kind of bad judgment from other blacks,even the ones who are darker skin themselves.

The way you described her,she sounds very beautiful and I've seen many dark skinned to the point Trinidadian girls and they got gorgeous and sexy ones,let her know she got it, love herselfand that being a light skin black female isn't everything,has she seen Tiny from Xscape now?And tell the haters to just remember their early ancestors came from dark skinned black people and the first light skin black people were pushed in labor by dark skinned black female slaves.

P.S.What do you mean most "were" gorgeous?They are gorgeous.A lot of people think skin colors effects on if a person is attractive or unattractive.That's bullshyt lies! It just depends on that person's features,that's all.

You are correct i see alot of dark skinned women like that and yes they are brain washed i however i'm a dark skin black woman who is not brainwashed lol i don't think light skin looks better at all I know for a fact i would be ugly if i were light skin. I love my dark skin and that girl should too.

I've seen lots of beautiful dark skinned black women.

But on television and in some countries it's considered unattractive.

And if so many people feel that way about their complexion how should you not feel a little unattractive.

Well I'm darker skinned and I have to say that when you're the most different looking person in a room, you feel ignored. I'm the type of person where people are either in love with my look or absolutely hate it.

Hmm...I don't know because the dark skin people in my family love being dark, and some dark girls are jealous of me because I am light skinned..I don't really care though because you are who you are, at the end of the day I love myself for my beautiful figure and so should she..so what if you are dark or light as long as you look beautiful you're okay..

I think the media portray lighter skinned girls to be more beautiful, like if you put in google "pretty black girls" it comes out with mostly light/biracial chicks which leads to most dark skinned girls having low self esteem and then they stereotype us lighter chicks for thinking we are better than them.

Most dark skinned girls usually are gorgeous! Someone must have told her that she was not pretty and her nose was big and broke her sprits...it happens sometimes!

haven't you watch movies or hear about sexiest celebrities? they only pick light skin black girls leaving the dark skin girls feeling inferior which is why many dark skin girls suffer from having an inferiority complex.

Because society tells them that dark skin cannot be attractive. Notice the black celebrities that are hailed by the media. Most of them are mixed with white, and if they're not mixed, they at least are light-skinned to appeal to the Western standard of beauty. This leaves the dark-skinned black women to believe that their dark skin prevents them from being attractive.
