Is it weird to give your child the name of one of your idols?

as a middle name

Update:

edit @ Miss Kris: *jaw scrapes floor* Payton is one of the names I'm talking about! OMG, huge Bears fan here! (even though we suck this season. lol) im talkingabout two names, a boys name (payton) and a girls name both of which I am considering using in the future as middles

Update 2:

oh and i cant use walter (the more handsome name IMO) for personal reasons

I think it's fine, provided your idol isn't a controversial figure, which could make life difficult for your child.

Otherwise, why not! It is something that has a lot of meaning to you, and I think that always makes for a lovely combination.

EDIT: I felt I should add, I've actually considered using the middle name of Walter, after Walter Payton because my boyfriend and I are both huge Bears fans.

    No, its not weird.

If my baby is male, his name will be Billie Joseph (Billie Joe or BJ for short). Although I'm a huge Green Day fan, that isnt the reason. I've always liked the name Billy or Billie and Joseph is my baby's grandpa's name. But hey, i dont mind him having the same name as Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day :) But it was accidental.

There isnt anything wrong with it.

Nope not at all. My nephews name is Richard Kyle after Richard and Kyle Petty (Nascar). I was highly considering the name Vayda from the movie my girl before Camilla came to me. (Will use it if i have another girl)

I think that if you like the name and if it comes from someone you respect than its fine. Name your child whatever you want...just remember they are the ones that have to live with it for the rest of their lives...so be nice :)

Only if the name is weird. I like names that have meaning behind them. So I think this would be great,

    I don't think so.

I love the name Anthony from the show NCIS.

  • not at all! if its like ringo starr or something, that might be a little weird.. but naming a kid after somebody that means something to you is completely normal.
