Gamboa, where do you put him p4p?

I've been very impressed with his offense and power - very technical, quick and explosive. The KO last night reminded me a bit of the Prince as far as effect and accuracy of some of the power shots, and I rate the Prince as the biggest puncher I've ever seen at 126.

I think he should be in the top 10 p4p right now, with the sky as the limit for him...I was very, very impressed.

There are many criteria for being considered P4P. Gamboa certainly has what it takes to eventually be a P4P player, but as of now he is still not on the short list. He certainly possesses the skill and hunger that many of the top fighters have. He has a beautiful blend of speed and power, and he is willing to engage the opponent in a more crowd pleasing manner. However, most highly ranked prospects are meant to blow out their competition at this stage of their careers. I will acknowledge that he has accomplished a lot already (more so than many of his peers who started around the same time or even before), and has steadily increased his competition. He does have the advantage of fighting an extensive "amateur" career for Cuba before defection. But he hasn't proven himself through stern adversity or defeated a legend or high caliber yet; case-in-point, many fighters on the hypothetical P4P list toiled for years to achieve their placement on this roster of formidable status. A KO of Mtagwa, impressive as it is, is not enough to start knocking these other young stars and veterans who earned their place among the Pound-for-Pound elite.

In short, Gamboa is knocking on the P4P door and will be in the club shortly, but as of now he still lies outside the cusp of the accomplished

gamboa fought a lesser opponent in his last fight....i remember manny challenged barrera on the start of his career in the US...i believe if i'm not mistaken, its right after winning the ibf belt from a south african. barrera i think is just his 2nd bout on US soil and its the most dramatic victory i ever saw in boxing, a standing tko on the last rounds, very rare....gamboa should do the same.....
