I had a linksys adapter that plugs into the usb port in my laptop which apparently looks for an internet signal and connects to the internet via my router hooked to my comcast internet in my office. Wireless N is the new standard for wireless networks. it will allow you to transfer data faster and give you a bigger area of coverage. Wireless N is backwards compatable with older devices like the B and G networks.

with your computer connected to the wireless router and laptop connected via wireless adapter the two computers will still be able to communicate however they will not get internet until you sign up for a new internet service.

right now comcast is the best service available, unless you have something like Verizon Fios in your area.

You (just like me) probably have some issues with the outside cabling or the main box that your house is connected to. Comcast never wants to spend the money to fix these issues so getting them to do so is like pulling teeth. I had to call out several techs to my house just to get the issue fixed and to have them run a brand new line directly from the box all the way to my cable modem.

Each time they come out to the house keep track if they come on time or not, if they dont come on time after they are done and leave the house call 1-800-comcast and report that the tech was not on time. They have an on-time garentee and will credit your bill $20 each time this happens. (i made $80)

Wireless N is just a wireless signal of type "N". You don't need that particular type to connect to routers. Pretty much any new laptop these days should connect to your wireless router.

In laymen's terms.. if all you want to do is connect to the internet, wireless N shouldn't mean anything to you.

Since you no longer have internet access, you will only be able to share files between your computers and laptops.

Wireless N is a communication protocol that allows computers on your intranet to communicate with each other wirelessly using a router or a server as a go between.
