Unemployment question...?
If I quit my job because my bosses are forcing me to do illegal things...will I be able to collect unemployment? They are basically making me do things that I could get fired for and in trouble with the law for so they won't get in trouble. I know that quitting your job pretty much makes you inelligible to collect, but what about this situation? I don't want to get caught and then be fired and get stuck with that on my record....Opinions??

It would be best to have a paper trail (copies of certified letters and/or internal company forms for reporting unethical situations) to document your taking exception with certain orders. That way, you could later prove the illegal orders should your refusal to follow them cause you to be terminated. Other than that, if you quit your job and your claim for unemployment benefits is denied, going by how it goes here in California, you can request a hearing to state your case as to why you quit. Your exact reason for potentially quitting is strong enough to win a hearing. However, again, anyway you could prove your case (testimony from co-workers, etc.) would help a bunch. Good luck.

Just tell them no you won't do it because it is illegal. If they fire you, then you can receive unemployment. If you quit, you won't receive any...so just let them fire you, but give them the reason I stated above.
Good luck!
