I had an accident a couple of months ago, my car was written off so i bought another car which i've now sold because i dont really need a car, but my insurance company wants me to pay the remains of my policy, i take it there's no way to get out of this?

if u sold your car, there is no need for car insurance immediately after the sale, and the policy should end, although the insurance compay might charge u for early termination fee or admin charges

Afaik, if you're in America your obligation to pay the auto insurance stops on the later of the date you sold the car or the date you told the insurance company you did so.

However, if you were behind on your payments, you owe for the period before this date.
