In 2009, TNT used the song "Highway Star" as their theme for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. I thought it was from Deep Purple, but they don't sound the same. The TNT version sounded newer. If so, who made it?

I think you're talking about Buckcherry
To let you know though, Deep Purple is the original and way better in my opinion

You were right, Deep Purple sang the original. Buckcherry sang the cover, according to wikipedia. Highway Star (song), Appearances in other media. Towards the bottom.

"Nobody's gonna take my car i'm gonna race it to the ground" This is one of my top five greatest songs. Buckcherry did a decent job with it but it will never live up to the original. I 'm pretty sure Deep Purle Machinehead was the first album I ever bought :)
