You're not overweight, you're actually within the weight range appropriate for your height. But if you do want to lose some weight or just tone up you should start by eating fewer calories, but don't stop eating all together! Just choose healthier foods that are lower in calories and fats. Whole grain pastas and breads are good for your metabolism, along with chicken and fish. You should also try to always eat breakfast, or at least as often as you can. Try to separate your food intake into five or six small meals a day. I know that sounds kind of hard, but it's not really. Have breakfast when you wake up, then have a healthy snack a couple hours later. Then lunch, then another healthy snack, and so on. You should also get al least 30 minutes of cardio a day. Just taking a walk is good enough. Crunches will tone your muscles, but if you have a layer of belly fat over your abs, it's not really going to show now will it? Cardio is the best kind of excersise for a flat stomach because it boosts your metabolism and burns fat. I tried this and it all worked for me. Good luck!!

I'm 16 5foot 2/3 and weighed 126 pounds and im trying to slim down a little( mostly my stomach) and its been about 3 weeks and ive lost 6 pounds heres how I'm doing it!
I've really just been working on what I eat and I try to get in exercise everyday. Like I run to the park which is a mile away and then back, or sometimes around the park and back. So pretty much I feel good about myself if I run for a half an hour about 3 maybe 4 times a week. And on tuesdays and saturdays I go to the gym with my sister( it's more fun and keeps ya motivated) to lift weights. But you really don't need a gym membership you can try doing stuff at home; but if you dont have any weights at home that's really alright I think just try being physically fit at least 3times a week for 30 min. through running, swimming, or other cardio activities that get your heart rate up, and combined with eating healthy you'll be suprised with your results!
I make my school lunches the night before and some things I'll have are; homemade chicken salad( chicken, light mayo, celery and craisins) with maybe with a couple whole wheat crackers to get some carbs in and then a container of fruit(: love pineapple, grapes, pears, anything! Also tuna salad is good, or yogurt with granola. Ijust make sure i have some protein for lunch and some fruit I'll put with it usually. And I try not to eat too much bread in a day. Say if I had oatmeal and crackers I wont have any carb like bread or potatoes for dinner. For breakfast i'll have an omelet or some sort of egg or some quaker oatmeal-w. a little bit of brown sugar and walnuts. sometimes even just some fruit and a scoop of peanut butter if im in a hurry.A good after school snack is a good tasting salad w. a light dressing, or some string cheese with some fruit, a smoothie, anything to hold you over until dinner. Really just cut out junk food and stick to the major food groups- no soda..stick with water! And don't eat after dinner! That's the hardest to get used to but it's very important.
Make sure to allow yourself one night a week to eat badly bc hey we're teenagers..but then get right back into healthy eating. Hope I helped and sorry this was so long! Also don't so much worry about what the scale says it's all about feeling and looking good (: Good luck girl!

I am 14 myself and I will help! So if you have opportunities to go swimming, GO SWIMMING! It is the best and I swim on a swim team for 2 hours a day. Try to get around 65 laps (that's about a mile on a 25 meter pool) If you cannot swim you can actually lose weight watching TV. Find a position that you feel a burning in you muscles. I neel on my knees and lift my feet as close to my butt as I can. It does help a lot. Now, for you arm. You can doing arm circles which I do. Try to do it for 10 straight which will build up a lot of muscle and burn fat. It might hurt and if you can't do it at first don't worry. Repeat that everyday, it oks if you don't for a day or two. Also, you can try to diet with taking out all of the unhealthy food but come on, food tastes really good! Do have some bad stuff. Try this stuff and I Hope it helps you!!!

Calories are in everything but water, don't listen to mazey. Calories do not define anything in any way, it's energy. Where energy comes from is sugar & fats.
Pay more attention to food labels, it's annoying & time consuming, but if you really wanna be healthy, this shouldn't be much of a problem.
Boosting fruits & veggies also has nothing to do with anything. Reduce your food consumption and spread it out as evenly as possible during the day. Eat until you're not hungry instead of full and try to get glutton full foods, like oatmeal & nuts, that stick to your guts & last longer, filling you up over a longer period of time (although it's not a substantial amount of time, just longer than other foods).
Eating fruits & veggies will give you the energy & vitamins + minerals you need daily. Snacking on that is a good way to gain your daily needs without really worrying about taste.
Also exercise, this takes the longest and is the most difficult, but after a few weeks, you'll feel energetic & healthier than before. Hope this helps.

First of all, if you don't do a sport, start one. Make sure it's something that you enjoy doing and stick to it. Do it an hour a day on schooldays and at least 4 hours on weekends. Each Saturday and Sunday morning, do an hour long jog. Maybe start off with it being a ten minute jog and make it longer each time. Remember not to overdo it. Don't cut down on sweet stuff altogether, have it maybe once a week as a special treat. Get low-fat products and make a meal menu for what to eat. Do not fry anything, grill instead. Popcorn is a very good snack as it has very little or no calories. June is a long way away, but remember to keep your eyes on the prize! Good luck and I hope I helped. :)

The best thing to get a flat stomach is crunches/sit-ups. So says my brother, I do an exercise called the jackknife. And try to replace snacking with some healthy snacks, and make sure your not eating too much, watch your portions, eat just enough so that your not hungry anymore, don't eat to the point where you feel like your going to pop.
I'm no professional or anything though, so you'll probably get a better answer than this. but thats what I do every day and I have a nice looking abdomen. And you don't need to go to a gym really, I have a Wii fit and it works fantastically, I don't even really have to use it anymore now that I know what exercises work what areas.

Your fourteen, so it will be VERY easy for you to lose the weight if you just listen to me and do as I say.
Cut soda out of your life. If this is impossible for you, allow yourself no more than two glasses a day. Drink water. Alternate between water and juice. It's much better. Did you know you lose five pounds a year by not drinking soda?
Watch how you eat. Resist that piece of cake after supper. Don't have seconds if you don't need to. Try not to have so much red meat, eat more chicken and fish.
When you have a sweet tooth, instead of chocolate go for a nice ripe piece of your favourite fruit.
Eat lots of fibre. I recommend Fibre 1, it's a great cereal.
Do you like milk? Try to get as close to skim milk as you can. I used to drink 2% and now I only drink skim because I love milk. It's better.
In terms of excercising, don't bother with weights or sit ups or whatever. One word for you: Cardio. Walk, dance, get your adrenaline pumping and your blood racing. Sweat, sweat, sweat. You will MELT. And before you know it, you'll look like a supermodel.
One thing that's very important though: Don't deprive yourself. If you want a piece of chocolate, or you want that hamburger from McDonalds, it's okay. Have it. If you repress your urges, you'll just end up losing it, binging and getting really upset at yourself.
I hope I've helped. =)

Hi there,
I think you might be getting a little mixed up with what you want exactly. You say that you want to lose "weight" but that means you might want to get rid of some muscle too. You then say that you'd like to "shape" (I'd call it tone) your body a little which implies you want to build some muscle. I'm not trying to pick at your question - I just want to clarify the point for you.
To answer it in the best way, I am going to look at it as if you want to get rid of fat AND build muscle at the same time. If you're looking to "trim" and "tone" your body, and espectially because you suggest you are not that overweight, I would suggest you start performing more intensive aerobic exercises such as jogging. I wouldn't think you need to change the whole way you eat or go on a diet because if you're wanting to build muscles - it's better to do it all with exercise.
Exercises like jogging won't exactly "build" your muscles on your stomach but they will help reduce the extra fat around there. Depending on how fit you are, you should go on daily or bi-daily jogs of around a mile. To build muscles, you should concentrate on anaerobic exercises such as sit-ups to help build muscles.
These muscle-building exercises will give your muscles the toning and training they need to grow and become more prominent. To start to see a real difference with sit-ups, you should be looking to do no more than 100 every day (more than that will often hurt your muscles).
If you stick to doing those two forms of exercise - jogging and sit-ups, you should see real improvements in a week or two. Remember, you should do them as often as you can (I.E every single day).
