United States Nuclear Reactors?
Why are mostly all of the United States' nuclear reactors located on the western part? I saw a map and was just wondering... Thanks!

There are less people in the west as per population density with more open land for security and safety purposes. The majority of the U.S. natural occurring materials for nuclear facilities are also found in the west and southwestern areas.

Really? I thought there was actually more on the east coast.
Anyway, building them in the west sounds like a better plan. More room, less people. Easier to meet zoning requirements. Remember though that the last Nuclear power plant was built over 20 years ago. Chernobyl put a huge halt on construction.
Did you know in the next 10 years they are supposed to start construction on new Nuclear plants that will double the number we have now?
Nuclear power is actually one of the safest forms of power we have, being beat out for number 1 by geothermal. Nuclear power is only dangerous when something goes wrong... which doesn't happen often because of all the interlocks and safeties in place. However, that doesn't stop situations such as Chernobyl where bad engineering comes into play.

They are required to have a certain amount of room around them. Also they need a lot of water. There is more of both available out west.
