What are some good musicians/bands I should check out?
I'm wanting to find some new music to listen to. I'd like to hear some musicians that are not very well known. Like, no mainstream musicians, please!
Yahoo is making me choose a genre when I post the question. It's being filed under "Rock & Pop" but that doesn't mean that I only want Rock and Pop suggestions. Thanks!
I said new and not mainstream. Although I like her, she is not really 'new' and she is definitely not unknown.
I like a lot of styles of music. Not really country too much or really heavy rap. I'm open to trying new things too.
Oh, and my sn is ZenDup because Zen is part of my first name and Dup is part of my last name... lol
I mean new to me. Obviously, nobody will know what exactly is new to me (lol) but basically just bands that you like that you think not a lot of people know about. Thanks for the lists! I'm doing searches and giving a listen to them. :o)

I only really know metal but here are some of my favourite bands.
Female fronted bands (Starting from lightest to heaviest)
-Paramore
-Flyleaf
-Kells
-Within Temptation
-Evanescence
-Kittie
-The agonist
-Arch Enemy
-Iwrestledabearonce
Male bands:
-Tool
-The butterfly effect
-radiohead
-nivarna
-Rage Against the Machine
-Disturbed
-Mudvayne
-Killswitch Engage
-Slipknot
-Bring Me The Horizon
These range from Punk Metal to Deathcore...Sorry i don't know any lighter stuff, but these are very good bands. If you want REALLY unknown bands, For female vocals, Kells, A french metal band will do the job (La Sphere is there best song) . For heavier stuff, Eths, A french screaming band, Also, The Agonist.Kittie too, I'd suggest the untill the end album, it's the only good one...
For unknown Male bands try The Butterfly Effect, An absolutily AMAZING Australian band which is just mind blowing live... Mudvayne is Pretty unknown too, they're heavier and some of the lyrics are kind of dark. But then again most of these are dark..
Hope this helps!!!

listen to Florence and the Machine!
they are absolutely amazing! And they released their debut album last year.
Another great band is Vampire Weekend. Don't be put off by the name. Their music is very much indie and kind of reggae, not emo or anything as the name may suggest. Excellent stuff.
others:
Lisa Mitchell
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Sarah Blasko
Kate Miller-Heidke
The Cat Empire
Mumford and Sons
Death Cab for Cutie
Grizzly Bear
