Proper way to thank Japanese for a gift?

My husband's boss brought me an item I wanted back from Japan (he is Japanese) and I want to thank him properly. He is here in the US with no family and very few friends. How can I show our gratitude for his kindness?

Update:

I just don't want to do anything that might offend him or anything. Different cultures have different rules sometimes.

hmmm, There is no particular way just because he's a Japanese.

Give him something in return or take him to a dinner.

    Addition:

One funny way is to give him a chocolate on Valentine's day, February 14th. Because in Japan, girls give chocolates to boys on that day, haha.

You must be careful so that he would not take it as "serious" love from you.
