No, that would take more spin. "This year" is hardly a time line either. He's statement last night that he will "work with congress" just sets up more finger pointing. It's an absurd rule that should never have been passed.
Gays get a choice of being treated like a liability worthy of occasional lip service by Democrats and being scapegoated for every social ill by Republicans.
It's a not really much of a choice at all.

People don't seem to understand that Don't Ask Don't Tell is a protection policy, not a way of keeping gays out.
If you permit homosexuals to be open about their orientation in the military, you run the serious risk of other less tolerant servicemen becoming uncomfortable and violent toward the homosexuals because of personal prejudices.
You cannot FORCE people to be tolerant, especially in a traditionally conservative institution like the military. I think sexual orientation should be irrelevant in service to the country.

Obama will do whatever he can to destroy our military. He believes that demanding that openly gay men and women be accepted will do this. He'll be sadly surprised that the reaction of most of the men and women in the services. Most of them won't give a crap as long as the person is reliable, intelligent, and willing to do the work necessary.
