Is it time for the Mets to fire Minaya?
After 2 seasons of monumental collapses and a year of being decimated by injury they are trying to sell the fans on Maine and Perez will be back to their 2006 competence. As it is now Josh Fogg is the # 3 starter. Garry Mathews Jr will be starting in CF because Beltran did not have his knee surgery right away. 1b has no power. Santos is the catcher ? and the #2 starter is a head case that is constantly licks his hand. Minaya lost out on Lackey (which should have been #1 priority) Molina, Sheets (risk with big upside). I think they could finish behind the National this year. Why not cut the loses now before the season starts and get someone competent to lead the organization.

Let's see what happens to the Mets this season, then fire Minaya if they don't start off well. But, I think Minaya actually has a plan set up this year and for the following years and he absolutely does not care about the ticket sales. He wants everyone to believe in this year's Mets regardless how bad the roster looks on paper. The Mets have been overhyped the last couple of seasons and key injuries have led to their demise. Minaya decided to add more depth this year rather than sign the big free agents at every position. A team like this needs to be kept under the radar or more bad news will arrive. Plus, there are a few players like Ike Davis and Josh Thole are being groomed to be future stars. Molina didn't want to leave the West Coast and move his family all the way to the East Coast just for one year before Thole becomes the starter. As for the pitching situation, the Mets must take a closer look at Niese and Nieve. So, the Mets have 6 starting pitchers right now. If a star pitcher had signed, what should the Mets do with Niese and Nieve? They were injured and have no trade value. And there is no guarantee Lackey and Sheets will do well in New York with the amount they are getting paid.

I assume the correct answer is yes.
The Willie Randolph firing..the original signing of Pedro Martinez, the Moises Alou signing, the Oliver Perez contract..among others, were particularly bad moves.
However landing stars like Beltran, Delgado and Santana...along with KRod.....were seen as good moves...and the Latino connection certainly helped. But it worked in reverse, when he obviously favoured signing Latino's...
The team looks like a disaster waiting to happen...if ever Santana can't appear every 5th game, they could easily fall to 4th or 5th in the division.
But on the other hand, he was not responsible for the crippling injuries sustained last year..or if he was fired, it is not certain how the team would improve.
The owner obviously likes him and is willing to go one more year...maybe afraid of revolt by his players?
To be realistic, the time for firing is probably after this season.

The real problem with the Mets is their owner, Wilpon. He's the one who refuses to fire Minaya because he's best friends with him. He's already said he will not fire Minaya, even though everyone agrees that he's gotta go

You're right about the lousy job he did but it won't happen right now. Once they gave him the winter to rebuild the team they will give him the season, or at least a good part of it.

yes over due..the mets are worried about the aclu and pressure..the mgr and general mgr and owner are not good for the team that was one game away from the series a few yrs ago..the right people for the job.bring back davy johnson or Valentine....or get pinella..u will see a big difference.

It's really long overdue. Willie Randolph should have never been let go either, so when Minaya is axed, they'd better let his little troll Manuel go too.

They've been needing to fire him for a while now. But I think they should actually get rid of him before he screws anything else up.

I'd say yes. I sure don't see them winning the division. At best, they're about equal to the Braves and Marlins, and not as good as the Phillies.
