How can I clean the dust off my car without scratching the paint?
I just bought a brand new car a couple of days ago. After driving it on roads after it snowed the car picked up a lot of dust on it. The car is black so the dust and dirt really show. I was wondering if there is a cloth I can get to clean the dust off my car without scratching the paint? Also is there something I can buy to clean the car with that does not use water and won't scratch the paint? In the winter it is difficult to wash my car with water outside. I want to try to keep the car showroom clean because the car is brand new...

Try out some mild and non toxic carwash for this purpose.

The only way to remove dust without scratching is with water, just rinse it off. if it is dirty you must use a detergent soap and a soft mitt or sponge. You can use waterless wash that comes in a spray bottle that will clean the dirt and dust but it leaves very small almost invisible scratches from the dirt.over time these scratches will accumulate. another method which is also not terribly bad is with a hand held dust mop made for cars, the dirtier it gets the better it attracts the dust, it also will scratch the finish over time, but it really does work well. hope this helps ...good luck

Well black car are the hardest to keep clean. That said it is almost impossible not to scratch the paint on any vehicle. That said I would use clear water and rinse the car thoroughly, then use a cleaner that you are comfortable with. After you get the car clean wax the car with a good wax. Then you could polish the car. Finally use a car cover. There are duster that people use to remove dust from their cars. Again no matter what you do you are going to scratch your finish. The thing is to keep it to a minimum by keeping it clean, waxed and polished. Surf City makes some great products for keep the finish of a car looking like new.

This would depend on 2 things. Basecoat/clearcoat finish or an acrylic enamal finish. Assuming u have a bc/cc finish the fastest cheapest way: laquer thinner (paint thinner &/or spirits same thing) on a very soft, dust free, rag (just use the corner of it) wipe off carefully and dont use a butt load of it. Use your common sense. The soft rag needs to be dust free so u dont cause anymore scratches. Also make sure the surface area is clean.

You can get an instant detailer spray at the parts store and a microfiber towel. You are still taking chances but besides the car wash that's about the only way.

Mineral spirits will remove any unwanted paint without harming the original finish of the car.

Using water is probably the best way. Anything dry can just rub the dust and scratch.

I'm pretty sure armoral makes a whip for touching up your car, but I'm not sure if there's anything you can use for the whole thing other than just taking it through a car wash.
