Depends
There is crazy then there is CRAZY..
However if they are over the top, they should be institutionalized for life.

Mentally ill inmates arnt normally taken to prison. They are taken to a mental hospital with security (They normally have normal, heightened, and max security in the same facility).
They are then treated for the way they need to be treated. But its not 'Prison'.
But yes, they deserve to be punished for what they have done. No, they shouldn't be placed in the same population of other inmates who were in their right mind to commit crimes.

Jail and prison makes people desensitized and more violent. What happens when a schizophrenic has been around violence non stop for a year? He's gonna come out more violent and more dangerous. The same for people with bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, etc. They should be given help and education and rehabilitation not punishment.

YES ! ......... There`s absolutely NO reason a Disturbo should be treated any differently than a sane person when it comes to sentencing ! If anything , they`re MORE dangerous than a normal , sane person !
Most psycho`s are treated with kid gloves , then re-offend as soon as they`re released ! Their mental problems are NOT society`s problems !!
