How were you named and what other names had your parents thought of?

My name is Tiffany Alice. Tiffany is after a friend my mother danced with as a kid and she liked the name Alice so chose that for a middle name.

Other names considered:

1. Monica

2. Rebecca

3. Jessica

4. Felicity

5. Isabella

6. my brother was going to be called Monique if my 2nd cousin hadn't been called that I'd probably have that name :D

Boys names: None but I imagine I would've been a Timothy or a Barnaby. My parents like those names.

BQ: What is the most funniest memory from your childhood?

BQ2: What was (according to stories from family members etc) the funniest thing you said as a kid?

BQ3: Do you like your name or would you prefer something else out of the list?

Me:

BQ:Don't really have a funny memory, didn't have an exciting childhood really.

BQ2: Apparently when I was 7 or 8 I said to my Dad something like: "I hate it when the teachers clear their throats' over the top of me when I'm talking in class, it's really rude coz I'm not finished talking yet!" I'm probably the only one who finds the idea of a 7 y/o saying that funny but I was such little know-it-all as a kid.

BQ3: No Alice is okay but I hate Tiffany (guess why!). I'd probably change it to Felicity Isabella-Alice. Mainly because I want to keep Alice in their but can't decide between Felicity and Isabella out of the list.

I absolutely adore the name Alice because it is so classic, dainty and feminine, and I love the Lewis Carroll book series. Tiffany reminds me of Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's." I've never seen the names paired together, but they're very pretty.

My parents intended to call me Alexandra and had already announced it to their friends and family, who had in turn created lovely needlework gifts and other little trinkets with that name, but they abandoned it a week before I was born when my uncle passed away and they decided to name me in his honor. Both of my parents had been exceptionally close to him, and he was actually the way they'd met. My dad went to boarding school with my uncle, and through that friendship met my mom, so he was incredibly special to them. His name was already rather unique and striking for a male, and the feminized version of it they gave me borders on bizarre, but I love it now anyway because it's so meaningful. I won't write my exact name here for privacy purposes, but to give you an idea about it, it's a derivation of the name of the Greek goddess of the forces of nature, Damia, and it means "spirited" and "untamable." It's fairly common in British culture to give two middle names (my parents are Brits), so I have one after my great-grandmother (Mirabelle) and the other is in honor of my grandmother and aunt (Simone).

My youngest sister was given the middle name Alexandra, so she now has the gifts that had been intended for me. The other names my parents had considered were:

    1. Mirabelle (as the first name)

    2. Byrony (mom's best friend; it rhymes with "irony")

    3. Gemma (family name)

    4. Zara (it became my sister's name)

If I was a boy I was going to just be named after my dad because he's the third one in the family with it, and it's a tradition to carry it on.

BQ: What is the most funniest memory from your childhood?

I have many funny and happy memories from my childhood, but the first that sprang to mine involves my sister since I just wrote her name, and am now smiling and thinking of her. When I was 12 and she was five we were in a dance together, and it was such a fabulous experience working with her, but on the night of the performance she had stage fright and hadn't wanted to go on. She finally agreed to, but I'd been nervous for her, and she knew it. Halfway through during a pivotal part she whispered "Hi Lark," and I don't know why, but it just totally amused me, and I sort of kicked my leg out and almost lost my balance because I was trying so hard not to laugh. I know it's not that funny of a story to anyone else, but it is to me. You can sort of see what I mean if you advance to 2:41. She's the tiny girl in pink second on the chain, and I'm hand-walking over them.

BQ2: What was (according to stories from family members etc) the funniest thing you said as a kid?

Apparently when I was two and a river in London was overflowing I asked my mom why God couldn't just pull the plug out of it like the way we did when the bath got too full to drain some of the water out.

BQ3: Do you like your name or would you prefer something else out of the list?

I hated my name as a child because it was so odd and masculine, and for years went by Lark, a nickname my family gave me as a very little girl because I was always waking up at dawn and singing, like the little songbird, but I've embraced now. I'm proud of it and wouldn't ever change it.

    ~ Peace : )

It's a Hebrew name (I was born in Israel), and my parents were apparently just sooo in love with it and knew that it was going to be the one. It helps that it's unisex, so it could work for either gender... I'm not sure about alternate names, they've always told me that they were pretty set on that name from the beginning.

BQ1. I can't list just one, my whole childhood seems like one big funny memory (:

BQ2. well apparently one day I was taking a bath when all of a sudden my parents heard this horrible scream followed by tears of misery. Naturally, they rushed over, thinking I've slipped or something (I was maybe three or four?), and when they got there, they found me with my feet resting on the wall, staring at them and bawling my eyes out. When they asked what's wrong, I screams "MY LITTLE FINGER IS SMALLER THAN ALL THE OTHER ONES!!!! I'M BROKEN!!!!" or something like that haha.

BQ3. I do like my name, but there are many others that I love so much more. I think it fits me, it means "pleasantness, gentleness and grace", which is fitting enough. In Israel, it was an extremely common name, but here in America I'm the only one in my school of close to 2000 haha. So I do like that aspect of it, the way I can be both familiar and "one of the many" and also unique.

After this book my mom read called "Eva Luna".

Luna was also considered for a middle name but they went with Michelle after my aunt instead.

    other names considered:

Jessica, Aubrey (now my sister's name), Camille

If I were a boy- Evan, Forrest

BQ: There are so many, I can't think of one specifically.

BQ2: I don't really know. I remember when I was 6 or 7 though and I had just finished watching the Parent Trap with my friend when the phone rang. There was a man on the other end asking for my dad and I grabbed a nearby candy wrapper, crinkled it next to the phone and hung up after shouting "I think we're breaking up"! I must have thought I was hilarious.

BQ3: I think my name is alright. I'm not in love with it but I know that there is much worse out there. Besides, I wouldn't want to change it now because I've grown so used to it that it's become a part of me. Also, I respect my parents choice and I know that they really like it, so it's ok with me. I really love the name Luna though! I wish they would have gone with that :)

    Hannah Elizabeth.

    Other names:

    Jessica

    Tara

    Isobel

    Elizabeth (as a first name)

    Boys names:

    James

    Alex

BQ: When I was about 5 my sister and I had plastic golf clubs so I *accidentally* hit her over the head with it =D I was an evil little girl...mwahahaha

BQ2: "Rainbon" I always said that instead of "rainbow" and my mum and dad always embarrass me if there's a rainbow around.

BQ3: Hannah, hmmm, a bit boring but my mum said I looked like a Hannah when I was born. Elizabeth is a nice middle name but I'd rather have been Tara or Isobel.

My name is Courtney June. My father had liked Samantha but didnt want his girl being called Sam. My mom liked Brandy and Stephanie until one day she heard a man call his daughter Courtney. June is my mom's aunt who would have been my moms godmother but she died while my grandmother was pregnant for my mom.. so June is my great aunt, my mom was Deborah June and I am Courtney June.

If I was a boy, I'd be William Henry after my father.. a brother came after me, thats his name.

BQ: my moms strange funny face trying to get me to bring her home cheesecake..

BQ1: yelling from the second story screen window "hey kids, its me Heithcliff".. its an 80's cartoon for those of you counting at home..

BQ3: I do not like my name, I find it combersome to say, especially when congested and spanish speaking people call me Corney (roll the R and miss the T).. It also doesnt translate well into Korean. I don't like Samantha, Stephanie or Brandy. I think I'd be a good Natalie :)

Names are kind of a special thing in my family. Every name has a story behind it and I love hearing all the stories of how we got our names because it's so interesting. For instance, my mom was named after a special woman and the name came to her mother in a similar way to mine.

My mom says that my uncle or her uncle--I'm not sure since I have so many more uncles than I do aunts--said that my mom was going to have a girl. That was weird because where I was born and the time I was born, getting ultrasounds wasn't a common thing so you didn't know what you were having until you had. But, anyway, he sent her a letter telling her this and giving her the name she should give me. I'm not going to write out my name because of privacy reasons, though. I know, it sucks. Because of that, there were no other names considered.

My name fits me perfectly which is why I laugh whenever I hear the story of how I got it. The meaning describes me and the role I play in all the relationships I'm in perfectly. I definitely would not want to change it. It's not too common--yet--and it's easy to pronouce, easy to spell, with only one other alternate spelling--which I'm happy about because I'm not a fan of names that can be spelled and are spelled 200 different ways just so the name can be "unique." All right. Rant over.

There was this story my mother told me. She said that when she went into labor with me, she had this one friend drive her to the hospital. He was a nice polite fellow, she says, and just as they were reaching the hospital, her water broke and basically spilled all over his car, but he didn't think anything of it. He died a while ago but when she told me his name, I was shocked. I thought it was weird that my favorite all time name for a boy was the name of the guy who'd driven her to the hospital while she was going into labor with me. It was weird because it was a name rarely mentioned, but I'd always felt a connection to it and I couldn't exactly explain why I loved it so much. Just another reason why I find names to be important and special.

Bonus Question: The funniest memory I have is of feeding my brother. I mean, that's the only thing that comes to mind right now. My little brother, who couldn't open his mouth too wide and who had razor sharp teeth and a lisp and was so chubby and drooled so much, you'd think there was a fountain in there. I went to put the food in his mouth--with my hand because it was finger food, not fork and knife food--and he bit me. I quickly pulled my hand back and yelped. My family starts laughing because of his reaction while I'm checking to see if my finger is bleeding. Anyway, my mom told him to apologize and because of his lisp, he said "horry" instead of "sorry" and would come to rub your head while apologizing. It made everyone laugh and all was forgotten.

Bonus Question 2: I don't know, really. My aunt tells me of a song that she calls my song and this song had the words "boom boom" or "bam bam," something funny and made up, and she said I used to sing and dance to it. Funny, I still enjoy singing and dancing to songs till this day. She played it for me recently, but it didn't really sound familiar.

My mom just named me Anna because she liked it. My full name is "Anna Paige". She was considering naming me "Kayleigh" or something of the sort. If I had been a boy, she was going to name is "Cole". :P Lovely.

BQ: I remember when my best childhood friend hit me on the head with a tennis racket. If that's not childhood friendship, I don't know what is.

BQ2: I used to call handicapped people "candy canes"? I was a weird kid, I swear.

BQ3: Yeah, I like my name.

My name is Michelle (but my friends call me Micki because of my once obsession with Mickey Mouse)... i'm not sure why i'm named the way I am but I do know that if I was a boy I would've been named after my grandfathers...

    other names:

    1. Mariel

    2. Jennifer

    3.Cheyenne

BQ: When I was in the 2nd grade, we had snow day and one of my friend's older sister decided to take him to the park. Since he was allowed to invite 6 of his friends to come, he asked me to tag along. When I got out his sister told me to be careful walking on the snow because it went up to my waist (I was somewhat short) and I could easily fall in the snow and get lost (also back then,I had some sort of fear about falling into snow). So for the rest of the walk to the park, I was walking carefully along with his sister and 2 of my friends. When we got to the park, we found the ultimate place to hold a snow ball fight and sledding tournament. Suddenly, my friend yelled out "last one to the hill is a rotten egg". Being that we were all kids, some of my friends immediately started running towards the hill. I didn't want to be the "rotten egg", I also ran with them. I also forgot about what my friend's sister said. Halfway there, I tripped and fell into the snow. It was like a scene from those movies where the crooks or kids are running and they suddenly fall flat on their face for no reason. Luckily, my friend's sister was also running after us. So before I could panic, she picked me up and carried me on her shoulders the whole way.

BQ 2: When I was little, words like chapstick and beach came out sounding like a** kick and beeyotch (so basically some of my words came out as a curse word) and according to my parents I was like one of those kids who speaks their mind... I would always ask why it was quiet in church, why it was loud at Six Flags, why the lady sitting next to us was so fat, and so on... so basically I was like a little alcholic (minus the consumption of alcohol)... get it? alcholics say whatever they want to say and not care what others think of...

BQ 3: I guess Michelle is an okay name... i would've picked Cheyenne as a middle name though

My name is Heather Rose. My mother got it out of a baby name book, it has no special sentimental meaning.

Two other name possibilities were Kelsey Lynn and Lindsey April. I'm glad I got Heather Rose.
