Having trouble putting on new clothes in Second Life?

When you purchase or are given items in SL, the items are either inside of an object (boxed) or inside of a folder. The items in the folders are easy to wear, just right-click and select wear.

The items in the box need to be unpacked. You will need to find some land that allows you to rez objects. You can tell if this is allowed by looking at the bottom row of buttons on your viewer. If the build button is not grayed out then you can rez objects. You can find land that allows this by searching in Places using keywords such as: Sandbox, dressing rooms and changing rooms.

When you are on land that allows rezzing, you will need to click-drag the box out of your inventory and onto the ground. Next you will need to right-click on the box and select "Open". A window will appear listing the contents of the box. Select "Copy To Inventory". The contents of the box will then appear in your inventory within a folder. Find that folder (Recent items tab in inventory), select the item(s) that you wish to wear, right-click and select "Wear".

Also remember to clean up after yourself if rezzing boxes on land that other residents make available to you for this purpose. After you are assured that the items within the box are in a folder in your inventory, right-click on the box and select "More" and then select "Delete". That will move the box into the trash folder in your inventory.
