You will never receive a 1080p signal over the airwaves, nobody will. The bandwidth required is far too great. The best you could ever expect is a 1080i, the P only comes into force when watching a blu-ray source like a PS3 or a blu-ray DVD.

the difference between a 1080p LCD TV and a 1080i The "p" actually stands for "progressive" and the "i" stands for interlaced. They are two different scanning methods. Without getting too technical the 1080p is the better of the two, it loses none of the signal from the start point to the destination.

There is also the frame rate to take into consideration. On a 1080i TV set the frame rate is 30 frames a second while a 1080p TV is double the rate. However, before you run out looking for the best TV money can buy there is one more thing to consider.

For a better explanation and more in depth one take a look at the hub page in the source.

To the guy who said the bigger the t.v the better the picture.. that is absolute rubbish! Common sence will tell you that. Also i think to look out for when buying a hdtv is if your getting a LDC one ask about refresh rates (refresh rate can be called different things but the shop will know) anything under 8ms is good, anything over that will blur drasticaly on fast moveing pictures, like sport and gaming.

Don't forget the HDMI cable, but you won't get HD programming until they broadcast it. If it's that far away, consider satellite for awhile and then you have to rent the HD receiver.

Also, try to buy at least a 42 inch tv for a better picture. The bigger the better.
