Canvas sneakers are certainly not 'more eco-friendly' but they maybe less eco-unfriendly. Nothing humans do or create is 'friendly' to the environment except on the rare occasion when we try to repair some of the damage we caused.

In the real scheme of things however, your question is a bit like asking, 'which is a more effective way to loose weight, cutting my finger nails or cutting my toenails?

There are slmost 7 billion people on this planet now and each day our numbers grow by some quarter of a million. Herein lies the problem. Whether we curb our individual consumption a fraction by choosing canvas sneakers over leather is really of little consequence

Both are made from renewable resources. The leather used is likely a byproduct of the food industry. I like the canvas ones for field use, when I am wading in streams; they dry out in fairly good shape. In that sense, I guess they are more eco-friendly.

Yes of course ! Canvas shoes are ideal enough for your boating needs rather than deck sandal. In the case of deck sandal they provide you comfort and protection at certain conditions. But canvas shoes have great advantage when a boat aground offshore. Pulling the wrecked boat to shore will be of a tough task canvas shoes labor a lot here by providing adequate support and traction. Excellent arch support is obtainable from these canvas deck shoes.

I agree with Oikos, as long as the leather was not treated with any chemicals, like pestisides to kill ticks, or any perservative
