My 5 1/2 year old daughter often writes in mirror writing, does she have a problem?
She can read quite well for her age and she is able to write forwards but she can write a whole page of writing in reverse and quite often does.

No! i am a primary 1 teacher and have many children who do this in my class. It is a great way for them to explore letters and sounds. I am sure the teacher will be aware of this too. If she is reading well and writing normally at times then she clearly does not have a problem. She is just experimenting. It really frustrates me when people answer this question who are clearly not experts in this field : she is not necessary dyslexic!!!!!
Hope this helps, you really should not worry. It is very important for children to explore different writing.

Hello Claire, it is very rare talent your daughter have. If she has any problem in writing and reading normally then it will be take care of. but If she don't have any problem in reading and writing in normal ways, then the way she writes in mirror image form then it will be counted as a talent. you should feel happy and proud for her and encourage her talent. This way not only she will be perfect in her quality but also you will be a perfect mom.

Hi
There's nothing wrong with this. I am an old geezer now & can still do it, having done it all my life.
Forget the direct link to dyslexia this is a COMPLETE MYTH.
If she does have this condition it is not necessarily directly linked to this style of writing.
I am left handed, though & that brought it's own difficulties.
Do speak with her teacher during a parent conference but don't worry, it's not uncommon.

Is she left handed? It's easier to write backwards with your left hand. If she can write equally well in either direction, she has excellent eye to hand coordination and should go far.

my 5 year old son does this sometimes as well. most kids grow out of it on their own but speak with your child's teacher for advice. they should be happy to help. it can be a sign of dyslexia.

Actually it's quite common and quite normal, she'll grow out of it.
