How do I switch instruments quickly in musicals?

It's the horror of alternate instruments in pit orchestra.

I only have 2 measures of fast cut-time for me to switch from clarinet to tenor sax.

By the time I pick up my tenor and attach the neck strap hook, I'm already 2 measures late.

Do I have to do something crazy, like holding the tenor on my lap while I play clarinet?

Keep the tenor attached and put a towel on a stand next to you. Put the clarinet on the towel (no noise)

Yes, play the clarinet while the tenor is on your lap. Buy a stand so that you can put down the clarinet quickly. Or maybe you could play some of the clarinet part on tenor so you wouldn't have to make such a quick transition (or vice versa--play the first few bars of the tenor part on clarinet).

Can you put down the clarinet, quickly pick up the tenor and play without attaching it to the neck strap first?

If yes, then that might be your solution.

Otherwise, holding the tenor on your lap (already hooked onto the neck strap) while you play clarinet might be the way to go.

Well, the violin is a quality tool within the proper arms. My flatmate performs it, as you might have already recounted Molly, and he is fairly instead well, besides while he performs it at four within the morning. Anyway, I consider it is fairly a rough tool to study, so within the first illustration I'd on the whole opt for some thing less complicated. I can play the clarinet....that is now not too rough.
