DVD Rom will play Audio CDs but not game CDs or DVDs?
Hi, I have a 3 year old Packard Bell with Windows XP.
Recently I have encountered problems with the DVD Rom.
Its a CD RW, DVD R/RW and DVD=R unit, dual layer.
It still plays audio CDs fine.
It will load GrandMaster Chess PC CD Rom fine.
It will not play DVD movies, nor will it load Football Manager 2007 CD-Rom.
When I place the disk in and click the icon, it spools for a few seconds, with the green light flashing, then stops spooling and message appears 'Incorrect CD: Insert correct CD, click ok and restart application.'
I have uninstalled drivers, rebooted - it is up to date. Audio CD works as usual but some games and DVDs won't load at all.
Any ideas? I am going to use a CD laser cleaner disc shortly, but surely the laser is not the problem if some discs work? Very stuck indeed, any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

No idea, maybe it's corrupted.
I had a DVD (R/Something or other) drive on my old PC, after sending it to be repaired after a virus, it came back and would not read re-writable CDs, only normal discs.
I reckon it's something to do with the fact it's a CD/DVD drive and because theres so many different types of DVD drive due to the DVD player manufacturers not being able to agree on one single drive design, it may be causing problems.

Sounds like you have a codec issue - Your laptop has CoDecs (COmpression DECcompression) for audio and video. Sounds like you have a conflict with your audio ones. Try going back to a restore point when it was working or update your codecs. You may also want to download codec sniper to remove the unwanted ones but get advice before removing any incase they are essentisial. Hope that helps

Try Updating your Driver for the ROM, I used to have a Sony Dual Layer and had to keep Updating it because of the software etc the game needs to run correctly.
Hope this Helps.
