How much warning should an employer give before telling you about a shift?
My employer called me today at 3pm to ask me to work for a 4pm shift. I'm just wondering how much time in advance an employer should give, or is this an "okay thing to do".

well they are suppose to be giving you asap warning. but if your schedule availability is at work and you are listed as available to work at the time they want you then you should go in. If its on your day off and your not suppose to work and cant or don't want to say no because too short notice and you are not listed as available person to call to work at that time.
Thats what i think.

If this is a permanent change, he should have out of courtesy given you a week or two warning. However, it is not a requirement.
If he is in need of you just doing this for this one day...then I guess it is up to you whether or not you choose to do it.

That's a little short but it isn't illegal in anyway. Somebody probably called in sick at 3 pm.
