Since your description of the facts said that you were bailed out of jail, the commitment you have now is to show up on time for each part of your trial. If you don't, the court will issue a warrant for your arrest and both the police and the bail bondsman will be looking for you. If you don't have the money for a lawyer, you can request a public defender, but you must show up for your court dates or your situation will go from bad to worse. In a case like domestic violence or assault, the DA can prosecute whether or not your husband wants to press charges. This is a very common situation and does not mean that you are a criminal; just that you have to deal with the consequences. If you plead guilty or go through a trial and are convicted, my guess is that you will be on probation at a minimum and there could be other penalties such as classes, community service, or jail time. The probation alone may cause you problems, since you say that you travel across state lines to work, while a condition of probation will probably be for you to stay in or near the county you were convicted in and only leave with the permission of your probation officer. You may need to stop traveling for the length of your probation, which could be several years.
