Peter Wenz - Toxic Waste?

Peter Wenz claims that consumerism creates a “mindset of worry that elicits production that generates toxic waste.” Our buying habits are bad for the environment. The basic idea is that worry leads to buying, which creates toxic waste.

(1) Advertisers get us to worry, (2) which gets us going to markets to buy products (3) that were made in factories.

Is Wenz right? partially right? totally wrong? How should our economic system be modified to deal with toxic waste? Should the advertisers change? Should the markets change? Should the factories change? Should the whole system be radically altered, just tweaked, or is it doing fine? What about us consumers?

Let me know your thoughts.

I don't buy based upon worry, I buy based upon need. In order to satisfy that need, I make the conscious effort to purchase what is most ecologically friendly. It might cost me a little more, but in my own little way, I feel I am making a difference.
