Why wait until mid-season to switch to the spoiler?

They know they are switching...why wait until later in the season and screw up the feel of the cars. Leave it to NASCAR to so something mid-stream.

Update:

They knew they were doing it some time back...it should already have been tested.

"They knew they were doing it some time back...it should already have been tested."

That is an incorrect statement. NASCAR did not know they were doing it a time back, they just made the official decision a few weeks ago. Pay more attention, buddy.

They need to do lots of tests to make sure it's right. They can't just jump right into this without testing anything.

They still need to test it. And it's not mid season, about 1/3 in

You cant just jump into something like that. If its not perfect it could cause drivers to crash. It could make the cars spin or flip or just plain not drive worth a dang. If you just jump into something like this you could end up getting someone killed. You cant do it until its 100% right.

They're not doing it mid season. They're doing it "first quarter" of the season. You don't just make this kind of change over night.

    Last minute equipment change.

I agree, it is highly unusual.
