Does anyone have any tips for an off-spinner to get more wickets at a younger level?

I am an off-spinner and I haven't gotten many wickets so I was wondering if there were any certain spots to bowl or any way to bowl, thanks.

The simple answer is to give it more air to pull the batsmen from their crease and set your field properly.

An off-spinner could have 2-3 in the deep on the leg side with a catching mid-wicket, but keep your straight fielders up so the batsmen have to take you on down the ground to hit the boundary.

Your captain has to understand and support spin bowling too, as a spinner will need the correct fields and the understanding that a greater portion of his wickets will come from deep catches than a pace bowler.

The key to it is protecting the boundaries that the batsman could otherwise hit to risk free (ie with the spin) and leave him a boundary to aim at that he will have to take a risk to hit.

Understand that you will get hit sometimes but that is not always a bad thing if you are working to a plan, sometimes the batsman will just play a good shot, but sooner or later you will beat him with changes in flight and pace.

Hardest thing for young spinners in junior cricket in Australia is lack of oppurtunity and lack of understanding from those setting fields.

spread your two spinning fingers as wide as you can when you bowl and you have to try and get the seam spinning at a 45 degree angle when it hits the ground.

even if it doesn't turn you will get some bounce. make sure you toss the ball up, this is key at younger level as guys don't like the ball above their eye sight level.
