Yes, it is easy to find.
Okra is commonly used as a thickening agent in soups in the Southern US ( "gumbo" is any soup containing okra) in addition to being cut, breaded, and fried. It can be found growing wild in the southeast and is usually very productive.
It can be grown outside in most areas, and generally does well.
It's also available in every grocery store. Any grocery store will have frozen and canned okra, whole and chopped. Most grocery stores also have fresh okra in the section with the other greens year round. Large chains (ex Kroger) should offer fresh okra in several varieties, including organic.
Okra is not expensive-frozen okra generally costs the same as the other frozen veggies (usually between one and two dollars for a one pound bag or box). The price of fresh okra will vary, it will be cheaper in the summer than in the winter but it will not be expensive either way.

Yes okra is very easy to find in some parts of the US, but probably not others. In the Southeast it can be found in any supermarket, farmers' market or produce stand when in season. It is very popular and not very expensive. I northern states it might be difficult or impossible unless you are in an area with a large African or East Indian population.

I love okra. I always buy mine from walmart, frozen vegetable's aisle. They have the breaded, mixed with other veggies or plain kind. I've seen fresh ones at the mexican or latino grocers.
