    Hi Elisabeth,

    The most important ¨tourist¨spots are

    - Zona Colonial (the old city next to the Malecon)

    - Faro a Colon (Big cross build for visit of Pope Juan 23)

    - Los tres Ojos (caves nearby the city)

    - Jardin Botanico (Botanical Garden)

    - El Acuario (Acuarium near Sans Soucie, avenida d´Espana)

Good food for a reasonable price you can find it all over the city. In the Zona Colonial you will find several one´s and also on the Malecon (avenida Washington)..

Beach in Santo Domingo NO BEACHES!! You have to go to Boca Chica (45 km) to find one....

The bus can be taken near the DUARTE street (shoping street) and the Elevado.

I don´t think that this will be a good time for the kids, all depending their age...

For sure Zona Colonial is a must see. Beaches nearest to the city are Boca Chica, Juan Dolio and the other side is Palinque (which is my favorite as its not really touristy and the fish is cheaper). for lots of info about the area check this web site.
