Hi Sim B:
There are a lot of really great things to do in Toronto. If you want an amazing view of the city and a perfect place to watch the sun go down, go to Toronto Island on the ferry or the top of the CN Tower. Toronto is made up of many different little communities each with its own atmosphere. Each of these little 'villages' has food, shopping, etc. It can be hot and humid in July so dress in layers. The Art Gallery of Ontario, the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) and lots of other venues are interesting but it depend upon what you like. The subway system is good as are the buses and trolleys so you can go almost anywhere quite reasonably. If you are interested in art, artsy shops, cool restaurants and a great setting used for lots of movies, walk from Yonge Street to the Distilery. You'll see a braod spectrum of Toronto. The shops of Yorkville near Yonge and Bloor are the upper end.
Explore...it's great!
All the best, Shari
